I was determined to get a 3" downpipe for my stock exhaust and delete the cat, but I'm thinking instead about waiting and getting a 4" turbo back exhaust for 200 bucks more. I need to be practical with my budget and I am looking for a mpg payoff after the thrill of the new exhaust goes away. Has anyone really seen a gain in MPG by doing 1) just the downpipe and cat or 2) going to a 4" MBRP exhaust or similar? I already get 21-21.5 mpg's on the highway consistently and 17-18 in town. Is it worth it from a money point of view? I generally take it easy driving but I occasionally let loose. When I punch it, I hear my wallet screaming. Maybe when the kids are all grown up I can play some more. Right now I have too many mouths to feed.
Well the DP will give you the most bang for the buck, with a cat delete. You could always go back and buy the exhaust system later when you feel the need for more speed.
You think just the DP and delete would do the same for MPG's as a whole system or that the gain from the system wouldn't do much over DP and delete? The other idea is that I could take that saved money and do a tuner later.
ditto above. i made $20 bucks cutting my cat out. paid $20 to exhaust shop and they said, we'll get rid of this for ya. i said, no, i want it back and sold it for $40.
i got a 4" MBRP on my truck with a DP. It sounds pretty good. I didnt really notice an increase in mileage, yet nothing i have done so far had really made a difference :/
Thanks fellas, you are making me feel better about the decision. I think I'll do the DP and cat delete and start saving for a tuner. I wish I had the money for the fun but I'll just have to wait until my boy is old enough to work on the truck with me.
I just installed a 3"dp and deleted the cat with the clamps from NAPA that are a couple of inches wide. This allows me to within 30 min. replace it with the cat in case MO laws make me.
Anyways the truck sounds like a semi at the exhaust pipe and feels like it has more power.
Then do the 10k mod and shim the FPR.
I am wondering if there is anyway to get rid of the low end drone that you hear in the cab traveling at highway speeds.
Also make sure you do the 6637 mod.
BTW does anyone know or use a turbo controller. A friend wants to give me his and I am wondering if anyone has done it yet and the results.
Just found a 4" turbo back for 300 bucks. If I do the downpipe and cat delete, I'm already at $160. Is another $140 worth it? 140 is 1/3 of the way to a chip.
Ok, I ordered the Downpipe and Cat delete. I figure, what difference is 1/2" going to make on this exhaust with a stock engine? If I save 150 bucks then I can put that toward a chip. Thanks for your advice. I know what I'll be doing between Christmas and New Years!
