truck won't start

I have a 1993 f-150, v-8. It ran fine on Monday, and on Tuesday it wouldn't start. It has two tanks, and I've tried starting it from both, but it won't. It turns over, and sounds like it's going to start, but that's as far as it goes. I'm fairly sure it's not a fuel problem, and I checked all the usual things, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, battery is new, as is the fuel filter. I was wondering if it might be the coil, or electronic control module, but don't know how to check them. Any help?

can you hear fuel pump run?

why sure not fuel problem?

is fuel shut off tripped?

does it start with starting fluid?

are you getting spark?

im having the same problem. start by checking your spark. also make sure your getting fuel with a fuel pressure gauge. Im getting power up until the distributor but nothing coming back out. put brand new dist in. didnt help. had my icm check at auto store not that. cant get any codes out of the computer. Ive got another thread going with some stuff that might help you. here it is....

Also get a haynes/chiltons manuel a test light and a voltage meter and look at the engine elctrical stuff and see if you can trouble shoot it with that.

thanks. I checked the fuel cut-off and it wasn't tripped. I can hear the fuel pump running so figure it's not that. I havn't tried starting fluid, but will. I was thinking more electrical because in the summer months whenever it's foggy or damp I have trouble starting it, and was told that ford ignition systems are notorious for that. At those times I have put a heat lamp over the control module for awhile, and then it would start. Here where I live we have lots of snow on the ground now, but yesterday was warmer than it has been lately, and damper than usual for winter, but my heat lamp trick didn't work this time. I'll read the other posts this evening, and worst comes to worst, give it a good kick.

then it defiently sounds like you need a ignition control module. I would suspect that. take it off and take it down to your local auto parts store. most of them can test these things. atleast I know autozone and discount/advance auto can test them. I dont know your local scene. if yours is remote mounted like mine its easy to remove one screw on top and one on buttom. unplug and go. try that. let us know what happens

I'll head to the car parts store tomorrow (small town but we have a carquest and napa). And yeh, the pumps run for a few seconds before turning the key to start it. I've had the truck for 10 years and it doesn't sound any different than it always has in that regard. I'll let you guys know what happens.

well, go figure. got up this morning, and we had clear and cold, which also means dry weather, and my truck started on the first turn. I'm thinking that since it's always started tough in damp weather, that maybe since it's getting older the problem is getting worse. I'll just remember not to count on it on wet days.
