FMX trouble, Help !

I am putting a 289 and FMX in a 92 ranger. I bought the tranny used. I rolled the truck onto the trailer to get exhaust put on. When I got to the shop, the truck would not roll backwards. jacked up the rear wheels to see what was happening. I had to take the driveshaft off. What would cause this? The tires roll in forward. The linkage is not hooked up yet, I moved it into different gears, but it didn't help.
Am I going to have to pull the tranny and check reverse or my parking pawl? I have no idea what to look for. This is going to be my daily driver and I'm at a loss

The pawl *could* be jammed, but the linkage moving around would have moved it... If the gizzards are locked up, one of the sprag clutches may be allowing 'overrun' in forward, but locking up when attempting to rotate in the opposite direction.
How long has the FMX been sitting around? Was it left out in the rain?

I really don't know how long it sat. I was told it sat in a garage. It's been sitting about 5 months in my possession. Should I fill it up and crank the engine? Is there a chance that whatever is stuck will work itself free?
