Well I hope I can get a Dp tuner soon. I got the air filter and now for christmas Santa is bring be a MBRP 4 INCH Exhaust and a gift card to pure diesel power so I can get some gauges
Yep -- that's the way to do it. Gauges, intake, exhaust, VB is a good choice, then tuner...
Unfortunately I can tell you that it is not the easiest plan to stick to! I have atleast once a day said screw it, order it!! Deal with the other stuff later. Then I come back.

But what if I am not wanting to build a racer...just want the extra UMPH for towing and mountain driving. Couldn't I just go with a tuner and exhaust?

NO!! Gauges are a must for towing, ESPECIALLY with a tuner. You can easily exceed your aluminum pistons' melting point in EGTs. And you can easily destroy your transmission with high temps. The "gauge" in the cluster is not a real gauge. It just shows you Cold, what the PCM thinks is "normal", and Overheated. Nothing between. You need at least those two, and boost is good to have just to keep an eye on and know what your truck is doing. And DP makes some excellent towing tunes, so you can take advantage fully of what your truck is capable of.

Intake, gauges, then DP. Thats the way I did it. I am waiting until the spring to do the valvebody and exhaust. I love my DP. You guys that are running without one don't know what you are missing. That 80"e" setting alone is sooooooo much better than running around stock you just don't know. These guys that are talking about how much better even the 80 setting is than their Superchips or Banks full "race" tunes aren't lying I don't think.
Hmmmm then a money pit it is....Ahh well....Guess I better save up my pennies...and lock the kid in the closet to keep her from getting into anymore trouble. I think I sent her lawyer to Hawaii for vacation twice this year. Ugh!
OK...So I have the cost for the tuner and the exhaust...what am I looking at for a 3 gauge pillar pod...and how much of a PITA is it to install?

I just did exactly that, just over $340 from Diesel Manor w/weather pack and paint. Expect about a day into it, it's not hard by any means, just time consuming.
I'm waiting to replace tranny first, then DP. My tranny won't give in though.
Don't wait, I am at 258K miles on my original tranny with no VB or shift kit, I have had some sort of tuner on this truck since 30K miles, first was a bully dog 40hp puck, ran that till 120K miles. then went to a bullydog power pup downloader ran most of the time in the 90HP program, ran that till 250K, now I have the DP and OMG!!!! I wish I would have known about them in 04 when the bullypuppy was released. I have had my DP now for about 8K miles and I love it. The bullypuppy 120 program cannot hold a candle to the DP 80Econo
Ps. I have a 11.5K fiver that gets towed a good bit, + 50K miles were logged toting campers during the rebuilding of Louisianna after Katrina, and Rita. I am not afraid to mash the go pedal when a the urge hits. the tranny has held up great, the DP will give it enough power to slip the TC in the 120Race setting, so, all things in moderation.

I bought the DiPricol Optix pyro, boost and trans temp.. I looked and looked and found a company called GOS performance. They sell these guages out the door with the mount prepainted and the shipping included. Total price was 345.00 I finished hooking every thing up in about 4 hours total. I got fixed up with the latest Black dial with the gunmetal bezel with the white led lighting. Looks great and real easy to read at night. Still having fun with the tuner. I have not driven much and need to get her out on the freeway to see what she will do. I have to be careful out here as if anyone see's smoke they just call the DMV and report it. Then I have to go to the DMV and PROVE that it is not smoking. (Back to stock setting)
So at this time I still say WOW!

OBTW, if you have horses, then you have to haul them with the truck. RIGHT?
now you will be making it easier for the truck to haul 10 horses. Just tell mamma that you need a HUGE new slant with living quarters up front
