I have a 1977 300 I6 and i would like to know what i need to do to make this engine EFI, I have all the EFI parts on an 87 300 I6 but that engine is destroyed internally. I have heard that i just need to block off the mechanical fuel pump hole, and something to do with porting the heads. I would like any insight on what needs to be donethat i can get on this.
The 77 engine will work but it doesn't have the air pump fittings in the exhaust ports. 87 oil dipstick won't fit 77 engine but 81 oilpan/dipstick will work. also the sensor behind the fuel pump (knock sensor?) will need a short pipe extension.
A fella on another board is running this combination: '84 300 short block, '66 240 head, '96 EFI system and says there are no backward compatability problems whatsoever.
If you live in an emissions-regulated area, pay attention to the above post: you will have to retain the late head, as the air injectors are built into the head. You may have to use the emissions head anyway to keep the EEC-IV computer happy.
If you decide to sell that emissions head, e-mail me; I need an emissions head core for a build-up.
I have an '81 F150 with a 300. I am searching for more fuel mileage, and I hear fuel injection is the way to go. I understand there are two kinds of fuel injection for this particular engine. Speed/Density, and computerized.
First, what exactly is the speed/density style, and what exactly does it take to convert it to my '81 with 1bbl carb?
Second, what does it take to convert from my carb. setup to the computerized set up, parts etc.
