Looking at a 1999 F250 ext cab auto 4x2 with 270k.Body is in nice shape it starts easy, slightly rough idle until warm, and runs well.It needs some brake work and probably glow plugs.
Is $4500 a good price? I do not put a ton of miles on a truck every year what sort of service life could I expect with good maintainance.
Currently have an 86 F250 that has served me well for 15+ years but rust is becoming a problem.
I Just bought a 2001 std. cab PSD 2wd. auto,w/152k miles for $2900.Needed brakes all around, but has been well maintained and runs super.NO rust.Bought mine at an auction, but you should be able to get them down a bit more on that price.

Not a bad price, there is a 99 ext cab 4x2 with 180K miles at the end of my street for $6900
Wow $2900.Guess I should start looking at local auctions. With the price of fuel going up I thought now might be a good time to buy but most of the stuff I have seen was in bad condition or priced like it was made of gold.
270k is alot of miles, while the engine could be good for quite a bit more alot of other parts might be reaching the end of the duty cycle. How do the AC compressors, wheel bearings, rearend gears and other items wear on these vintage?
Rear ends are bullet-proof.Wheel bearings too unless someone has been running BIG tires on offset wheels.A/C compressors are pretty dependable too.I'd worry about the tranny though...
What model tranny did they use for 99?
Was the e4od still used or a newer model.I spent some time reading up on that unit as a lot of what is in my price range use that tranny.
