My neighbor has a 93 lightning. I talked to him this summer about it and he wanted 5 grand for it. It is red, has less than a 90K on it, all stock, and is in great shape. Right now my 92 f150 is getting pretty beat up so im going to leave it at the ranch for my realtives to use.
My questions is it worth 5 grand? Also what kind of mpg do you get? I'm going to be doing alot driving mostly on the interstate and highway, so i kind of want decent mpg. If i do get im going put alot of mods on it.
What do you think
That sounds like a pretty damn decent price, especially if is real clean and well maintained. Dont count on getting too great of gas mileage. My buddy had one that got 13mpg hwy on a good day. I think he got as low as 9mpg city. They are well built tough trucks that have held their value well.
I live next to the guy and last time he had his garage open i seen it sitting there and that was this summer. I'm going back home this weekend if i see im going to ask him about it. I do remember him telling me when he wasn't on it he could get 17 mpg on the highway and interstate. If i add like exhaust, cold air intake, chip, headers, and throttle body it would bring it up a ways i would think.
Also do you think this lightning could take on a newer silvrado SS?

The new ss trucks wont get out of their own way! I'd hope that the L would run with it. lol
4:10 gears and a 5.8 is not exactly the recipe for great gas mileage, however, they're fun to drive. I've had my 94 since early 96 (my brother was the original owner) and I can't tell you what kind of mileage it gets because I can't keep my foot out of the throttle.
5k for a 93 in good condition is a good deal, and you shouldn't have any problem with a stock silvy SS.
Proven bolt-ons for the GEN 1's are headers (long tubes) and exhaust, bump the base timing up a few degrees, traction bars and CIA. With those mods, you wont need a chip and a throttle body upgrade isn't needed at that level.
As the owner of 3 Gen 1's Here is my 2 cents. $5K is a very good price for a clean 93 with under 100K miles
Milage on my lightly modded 93 and 94 with 4.10 rearend is always 16 to 17 highway if under 75mph. It begins to go down as speeds go up. 100 mph will get you 10 mpg. City is 12 but I can't keep my foot out of it.
Now the crazy modded 94 forget it who cares it's fast!!
GO FOR IT!You won't regret it,5k is a good deal for a clean truck with that mileage. My 93 with off-road x-pipe and under drive pullies gets 15-16mpg.The 95 on the other hand with 1.7 roller rockers, underdrives, full bassani exhaust,16 degrees timing(premium fuel) gets 16-17 mpg. That is highway figures on both of them.I have never heard anybody say they regreted owning a Lightning.

The AWD ones launch like a **** tho. I had one put a good two to three truck lengths on me while I was still feathering the pedal to get traction. Once I did though, it was all over. I passed him like he was going backwards.
Well I didnt get the chance to talk to the guy when i was back home. With school and wrestling its hard to get back. When i get back this spring ill talk to the owner.
I finally got a chance to talk to the guy today and he does want $5000 for it. It has little over 60,000 miles and its pure stock. I did however find out that it was wrecked at one point. From what he told he replaced the hood, fenders and grill. I couldnt really tell that those parts were prelaced. So does it sound like a good deal still.
