New Member - will need help ;-)
I just joined up here. Ordinarily I don't jump in and start asking questions, without contrtibuting a little to the community first, but I recently had my primary vehicle stolen and have to get moving on my project, so here goes...
I have a 98 Explorer that I killed about 2 years ago by towing things too big too often. The tranny (4R55E) is in need of a rebuild and the engine is blown, to what extent I do not yet know. I'm going to tear it down before I decide to rebuild or buy a refurbed unit. I am ready to tackle the project now and I'm looking for technical material. Is it really this hard to find an engine rebuild manual for the 4.0L V6? I have seen the earlier thread about the Sven Pruett book (60 degree v6 rebuilds) but that thing seems to be an anomally. It ranges from $9.00 to $135.00 on the net and I'm still not convinced it will be useful for a '98 4.0L.
Any help getting started will be greatly appreciated. I'm sure I'll be here often.
I would suggest looking on ebay for a set of the oem shop manuals. I bought a set for my '97 and they have saved me a few times.
