this may be the stoopidist question yet (my first diesel so hopefully you guys will be gentle) but is it normal for there to be a slight diesel smell (not spent but pump-fresh smell) all around the truck at all times?
i only ask cuz i never noticed anything at all the first 3 months or so, now when i get in and out it is pretty darn noticeable.
thanks!

I don't smell any diesel around my truck but there is a horrible sulfur smell (smells like really bad rotten eggs).
I called my service advisor and he said it was normal. I know for gas engines, if you have a rotten egg smell after 10k miles, that means your cat converter is bad. I guess diesels are different.
On the 6.4L..If you are smelling diesel it is probably regenerating and the DPF is bad....Check your tail pipe , if it is black with soot your DPF is bad.

I don't have a rotten egg smell either. Never noticed one on any diesel I have had.
Some 2008 Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.4L diesel engine may exhibit an exhaust odor inside the vehicle, and/or exhaust smoke may be visible from the front of the vehicle.
Follow the Service Procedure steps to inspect the turbocharger to exhaust down pipe connection for a leak
YES, i do smell diesel fuel when walking around the drivers side of my truck. its very faint and others dont notice it but i have wondered. could it be coming out of a fuel tank vent? i guess ill add it to my first service appontment list.
Hi Chance. I have a 08 KingRanch F350. Now it has 10000 miles on it. I have smelled the same thing as you have. My dealer says it is a leak around the turbo. I only smell it during regen process. It leaks down on the exhaust and smells like diesel steam. When I have the air conditioning on and the button selected the let outside air in, the steam blows in like crazy thru the AC vents. Sometimes when my truck is just parked and goes into regen, the diesel steam pours out of the hood vents and sometime comes from the bottom of the truck. It seems that sometime the regen process is worse thatn others. I am taking the truck in after christmas and leaving it. Got a list of ***** wrong that I want fixed. Good luck with your problem
