Power drainage

I have a 88 F-250, and the battery keeps getting drained somehow. What would cause this, and how do I go about trying to fix it? thank you

Check your charging voltage(with a DMM) at the battery terminals with the engine running, it should be 13.5-14v. With the engine off you should still have 12.5 volts. Disconnect 1 battery terminal and measure voltage again, should still be 12.5v.

The usual suspect for a draining battery is the alternator, or more correctly the integrated voltage regulator and rectifier. These are often incorrectly diagnosed as OK on the benchtop testers at parts stores. These parts can be changed but the case is hard to get apart, so it's easier to just get a rebuilt alternator.
