Ha, the moving company is a joke. So far they have snapped the one side of the computer desk clean off (made personally by my dad). And has broken part of the dvd holder in pieces. And has dropped my furniture.
Wish me luck with dealing with them why my father is at work. We are all very peeved. It was supost to be excecutive but has ended up being a nightmear. They said we are insured...but yet refuse to pay for the broken desk? And didnt even tell us they had broken the dvd rack. Not to mention they smashed all moms flower arrangements, and have just thrown things into boxes unpacked. And are walking on bran new carpet with slushly dirty shoes!
So yeh...this helps a little with my stress level.
Any good ways to destress after we can finally be rid of them?
P.S. Don't get me wrong, they are nice people. They just have absolutly no respect and NO business touching anything but their own personal belongings.

I agree, which is why ya sponser them with a honest charity.
My folks sponser one, and I plan to also, soon as I get a job down here. (next month hopefully )
After many military moves with my folks I have seen it all with movers. Even the best movers break and lose stuff, but what do expect, they hire their packers for little over mimium wage and those people don't care. Our first military move i was about 11 and they lost my brand new bike that i payed for and they said that they would try and find it. It finally showed up 3 months later because they unloaded it with someone else's shipment on the same truck and those people swore up and down that it was theirs. My folks have always had stuff damaged, broken, or lost in their shipments and getting compositaion is always a pain as they will make you jump through every hoop they have and will drag it out hoping you will give up. So stick in there and hold firm and always say it is worth more than it is worth as they will knock down that price some.
We had no problem before, the problem is this half butt crew. The one girl, did nothing but tape up a box with nothing in it, just to look busy. So basicly its just two people doin all the work...and they are not any better.
It's just frustrating, they come an hour later then they say they will come, and then leave at 4 when they said they will work till 7...total joke. They would have taken two weeks to pack us had they not hired two guys to help for two days. Those two guys did most of it and all of the loading onto the truck. Then they came back in to appologize for this crew. (both work under same management for our move, but differnt companies) If it was up to me, I wouldnt pay them but for gas. But thats up to my dad's company. Who had no ideal this was what they were like. I have a feeling they are gona get into big trouble. Expecially since they are also to were uniforms..and have not been doing so. I mean, it is considered a high class moving, for elite , high ranking people. Bunch of bull, we loved our "lower class" moving comany, they were awesome and we had absolutly no problem with them.
I will admit though, the company needs to really check out who they are working with. They sent a four many crew, two of which are of no use. And the lady who is to handle our move is unperfesonal also. That and some paper work is floating out there in space evidently. Sure hasnt showed up in either mail box as they have promised.
It just goes to show that if ya want something done right ya have to do it yourself.
Cant trust anyone anymore. That and ya should only have the needs, that way ya can load all your belongings in a pickup. Which means yard sale for me. Why I have held on to all this crap...I have no idea.
FTE is making me happy...I love it here. Atlest an hour a day keeps my sanity.
He showed up in VA, the mover was nowhere to be found...
The mover was jocked up in a county jail, while the truck was in impound, My bro lived at his new place for about a week with nothing. the moving co didnt compensate him either
You hit the nail on the head - move yourself. Easier said than done but it is the only way to guarantee that noone else is at fault for broken/missing stuff.
Another way to HELP (but not guarantee) is to slip the movers some cash, pizza, beverages, etc. It's wrong that you would have to bribe someone to do their job but I know it helps.
movers are the worst thats why i always do it myself when i get too old to do it myself i just will stay in one spot most of the movers in NY get their help from either the prison work release or parole system we used to laugh they have a mover here Time movers.. we wondered if it was called that cause all their employees did time
Sorry to hear about your bad experience, hopefully they'll make it right in the end.
I have never heard any good stories about any of the big moving companies, which is why I have decided that when I end up making a big move it'll be my family and I and a ryder truck doing it. (U-haul trucks scare the crap out of me)
A good friend of mine and his Dad work for Atlas Van Lines driving a semi and moving people all over the country. They are very, very good. I don't think they've ever broken anything.
Ahhh the joys of moving. Couple that with a moving company that doesn't give a rats behind and you're in for a joyous day. Been there on more than a few military moves. Most had been good but at least with us the military kept an eye on the companies and had a grading system for them (or used to). Plus, it was in their best interest to do a good job so they could keep the contracts.
Worst move I had was from near Omaha back here to New Mexico. Broken stuff, missing things, stuff broken intentionally so it would fit in to the truck. Our best move was from Guam to Omaha. Heck, I think we even gained a few extra things! Not really, but it was a good move.
None the less, very frustrating to begin with and when you have movers like you have, then you have moves like you are having. Keep a close eye on your valuables too. Had a buddy who had quarters rolled up and in a pile of stuff "not to be packed". Saw a packer take them so he (my buddy) called the Traffic Management People on base who in turn got a hold of the big cheese for the moving company over to Waynes house. Found the money hidden in a stack of packing quilts. Packer was fired on the spot.
The one big move I've done, (that couldn't be done with several pickup loads and some beer) we bought a used semi-trailer for $3500, packed ourselves at our leisure, had a friend with a CDL drive it to our new home, and unpacked at our leisure. Came out way ahead and still had the trailer to sell or use for storage. The cheapest pack it yourself & they drive it we found was around $6000, and you only had 2 days to pack and 2 days to unpack before they picked up the trailer.
Hopefully you keep on them and they'll make it right, and you enjoy living in your new home more than moving there!
I HATE moving! (Because I have always done it, myself!)
When we moved from Tennessee to Maryland in '67, Dad hired a nationally known, reputable company.
Yeah, the company was reputable, but, the driver and helpers weren't.
Stuff was missing.
Dad confronted the driver. (He was 'in charge' of the crew.)
The guy said that there was an extra charge for that stuff and that cash $$$ would get it to them.
Dad opened the trunk of his '62 Catalina and pulled out his old Stevens shotgun and broke it open, and started loading it.
Dad told the guy that if the stuff didn't magically appear in 20 minutes, he was going to neuter the driver!
Presto!!!!!!! The dresser and antique mirror (among other stuff) 'magically' appeared!!!!!!!
