Hi everybody I am new to this site and have just bought an old F series from my mate on the farm. How do I tell what model etc it is and where is the best source of info.
It really has been a work horse here in good old Australia, carting hay for the past ten years before retirement to become a home for the rats in the hay shed.
I am gonna need LOTS of help with this project and look forward to hearing from you. I will post some pics soon but really dont want to scare you .....just yet.
The first place to start for information is too look at the VIN plate and find a way to decode that magic number. It'll tell you all sorts of things about your truck...if your truck is unmodified.
Also, wouldn't hurt to dig through the glove box, you might find out info about its maintanence history and what not.
And for your own safety, get some rat poison in there.
if you are able to post some pics there are people here that can tell what year and model it is just by looking at it. different grils, gas tank filler locations.... also go look through differnt gallerys and see if you see one that looks like urs. but the vin is the best way, if able.
You can also post the VIN number and if you ask nicely, somebody that has all the VIN info for those years will tell you about your truck.
You can also surf the web looking for VIN decoding information. Or you can even just surf FTE and find some VIN info using the Search option.
Your truck may need a lot of work, but as long as you have the VIN and other identification tags (axles, etc), your vehicle at least won't be a 1970 Ford F-Mystery.
The VIN's used in Australia/New Zealand are NOT the same as the VINS used in the US and (after 1965) in Canada. Different ID numbers entirely.
FTE member Mil1ion may be able to decode "down under" VINS....I can't = been there...couldn't do that.
Ford Truck Parts Catalogs used in the US and Canada do not have the VIN info for trucks sold in other countries.
The trucks also may not look the same as they do here in North America.
So ID'ing the exact year may not be the same just by looking at the truck.

Well it's not a 67' or a 70' and the steering wheel is on the wrong side now Im really scared call my ma ma it's not fun any more Yeah I know the auto's down under are made to drive on the wrong side of the road I would guess 69' looks like original paint the sticker in the door jamb might still be there that gives you mounth/year built good luck.
Welcome to the site. Looks like 68 or 69 I see pics are labeled as a 69. The seat looks good but, isn't the steering wheel on the wrong side? You do have your work cut out for you. These are nice trucks. Please be careful cleaning out the interior, it would be a good idea to wear a mask, because of the rat droppings. Best of luck.
Thanks for all the replies and help.
My very first guess was 69 I used to own a 65 about 25 years ago (should ave kept that one).
The seat has been re-upholstered at some stage and the rats havent got to it.
Will be picking it up after the new year, first thing is a good clean then we can start tracking down all the codes etc.
Will keep you updated on the progress
And sorry for having the steering wheel on the wrong side thats one of the things that happens Down-Under in Oz.
Wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe one
Hi Scrapyardking - Andy
The gear pattern here is the "H" patern 1 top left/3 top right - 2 bottom left/4 bottom right Reverse is - Neutral - hard right to bottom. Driver is on the right side where steering wheel is (of course) gear shift on his left - Accelerator (Gas pedal) is far right - then left of that is brake - then clutch is left again.
Airconditiong control is - window winder on doors. Sorry just my Aussie humour.
Hope this helps you out. I will post more pics in my gallery for you in the new year once I pick it up. Hopefully they will show you some more of the differences you might recognise, just like my spelling.
