Code Alarm remote starter problems!?!?

So I put in the unit about a month ago, everything worked fine and it started it great. That is until it got down right cold about 0 to -10 for the low, then it work not crank long enough for it to start. I went reading in the manual and see that the longest Adjustable crank time is 1.4 seconds...And if it did not start within that time, it would not retry to start it as the systems assumes it started… . So I saw that I need to hook up my tach wire to get it to crank until it knew it start…. Did that and got it programmed to learn the tach….this is were the problems begin<o></o>

<o></o>

--First is when you start the truck with the remote then go to adjust the heater control ***** with out the key in it kills the engine.... Does this all the time, but only when the idle is down to what the system learned, so if you just started the truck and the idle is about 1100 or so it does not do this.

--Second the other morning I started the truck with the remote, it started, then after about 4 seconds it killed the engine, then it retried to start it, it started and ran again for about 4 seconds then killed the engine again.. Then would not retry…. I started it again with the remote it started and ran for about 4 second again
then shut down... Tried it again only to have it do the same thing...it has only done this one time during this start up.

---Started the truck with the remote starter and stayed running, then went to unlock the doors with the remote, then it killed the engine when I hit the unlock button......went to see if I could have it do it again.... nope works fine, tried later and works like it should.

---Now today everything works fine expect for the heater thing again….

All of these problems started after I hooked up the tach wire, but I know I am at the right one because the unit programmed fine, and honked
every three seconds to confirm the tach signal.

I also grabbed the tach at an ignition coil

<o></o>

WTF is going on?

<o></o>

Thanks for the help!!!

As long as you picked the "odd" colored wire at any of the injectors for a tach signal you should be fine.

I would go back in and make sure there are no wires touching/shorting out. There should be no way that touching the heat controls, etc should shut the remote start off. Only when you put your foot on the brake, insert key and switch on, or re-remote start from key fob should take the truck out of remote start mode.

**Also....in the programming. You should have had to switch it over from voltage to tach signal (not programming the tach, but telling the brain to look for a tach signal not a voltage spike). If you didnt do that, when you are pressing buttons may be causing a drop in voltage and causing the remote start to shut off.

Yes, I did pick the odd color wire; expect I picked it up at the ignition coil (green/white wire, passenger Side) not a fuel injector. In the manual it says either. Although I had someone else tell me that I should have gotten it at a fuel injector, he has a 01 f150 and said he has had problems not going to a fuel injector

All my wire connections are good, all are soldered and taped

I dont see anything in the programming options thats has me chage the voltage to tach.

Here is what I did, Bold is default

All I have in my option bank for tach is 1 2

(option bank 4)
1-Tach mode (1) use blind crank (2) use tach input on OFF

I changed this to ON for tech input

2-Blind Crank (1) Crank average (2) Adjustable ON off

DId not touch this one

(option bank 6)

4- Tach learn Tach programming (open hood, start with key) on OFF

Did this and it honked the horn to confirm tach input.

I'd grab the tach at the fuel injector and reset the system. Also, I know you said all your wire taps are soldered but where/how did you get the wiring info? When I installed my DEI unit I noticed the instructions and the available wiring diagrams weren't always right. Also, if you go by the wire color and harness location I noticed ford has a habit of grouping like colored wires within the same harness. I found this out when I first tried my unit and the windshield washers came on rather than the car starting. Ford had two of the same color wires going through the same harness in the drivers side kick panel. One was a 20G and the other a 22G. Your heater issues makes me think that you might have a simialr problem.

Going with what Bridge said. Did you test the wires before you hooked them up? You may want to go back and grab the tach at an injector and re-learn the tach. When I installed I always got the tach from the odd colored wire at any injector and never had any isues.

It seems like you have done everything correctly. If all else fails, call Code and talk with tech support. You could have a short in the brain. I've seen it before.

Yea I tested the wires before I hooked them up with a volt meter, and I got the wire diagram form ford.

I will try a fuel injector and do a reset and see what happens.
