Clutch Problem

On the way into work this morning I went to shift and the clutch made a pop about 1/2 way in and then would not release at all. I haven't had a chance to check much except to verify the fluid level. Just looking for thoughts on what the pop may have been and which way to proceed from here. I'm guessing I'm looking at pulling the transmission...

Thanks..

Your description is a little fuzzy. Can you physically push the pedal all the way down? Is the truck currently stuck in gear?

Sorry for being so obscure...The pedal does travel the full length, the clutch just does not release..I actually got it home by putting it in 1st gear with the engine off and then starting it...once it got up to speed ~10-15 mph I could shift it into 2nd - with a little force. Kinda weird I know but it worked. I went out to look at it tonight and nothing amiss externally. The pedal actually feels normal - just not releasing. I can shift thru all the gears with the engine off but not with it running. Hope this describes it a bit better.

In all likelyhood you're looking at a clutch job. I'd guess that there might be a few broken fingers in the pressure plate, or something like that.

question before I get into this on saturday...Whats the best way to remove the pilot bearing from the flywheel assuming I don't remove the flywheel itself?

I beleive you can remove the pilot bearing by filling the hole with bearing greese and drive a drift into the grease. Be sure and wear a face shield!!! But it should pop out. Good luck and keep us posted.

Ricka, to pul out this bearing I made 2 small hooks, welded them together, welded a small ting and with puller screw pull it out. Some gues use big screwdriver and nock it out (sometimes broken in pices)....

The most original way!!!

As I can see, clutch lives about 5-10 years. Fortunatly it is cheap and easy to do. That's why I like manual trannyes.
