well the titles are all in my dads name and to swich them all over at 50 bucks a piece would be expensive.
But there is an abandoned strip mine near my house where I could store them (I have a couple of mine there now) thats why geting them off my property wouldnt be a problem I just cant sell them to a junkyard.
OK. I thought you didn't have titles at all.
As far as the mine goes, somebody must own that property - is it OK with them to put the cars there?
What are you gonna do with 100 cars, anyhow? It seems like a scrapyard would take them as long as you have a title, you could explain to them the circumstances. I think they just want to be certain that they are not taking stolen goods - if you have the titles it should be OK.
Im about 1/4 mile away from fairfield township (where thers no zoning) right inside of fairfield my buddy owns a couple of acres of land which is road front. So I went into the zoning office and told the lady if she makes me clean this up I was going to move all the cars to my buddys property which is right outside of town and road front.
And since it is in a diffrent township there was nothing they could do about it and they would half to look at the cars everyday when they drove past.
So I said to the lady would you like the cars back in the woods where you cant see them or right out beside the road.
Then she replied keep your We do not use that type of language in FTE Admin cars and get the hell out of here!!
Did she put that in writing? I ask that because you have received notice in writing and that probablyy has to be answered somehow. Get something in writing.
I'm not sure how zoning works in PA but here, if you were conducting an operation prior to zoning being established, you should be able to continue. But, if they passed a bylaw that specifically addresses unregistered cars then you could have a problem. Are you running a parts business?
Either way, you can always buy time with any zoning action by appealing it. Everything can be appealed and they have to stop enforcement action while you appeal. Just make sure to meet all the deadlines.
Also forgot to mention that any of these cars that aren't worth anything should be scrapped. Have you looked at the price of scrap steel? Titles shouldn't be an issue as long as you can prove you inherited them.
Hell, the scrappers around here will take a car without any title. I've never had one ask for one.
Most "Incorporated" areas have some kind of ordinance that dictates how many UNREGISTERED/NON OPERABLE MOTOR VEHICLES may be on a certain property that is NOT licensed as a dealer/salvage yard.
The fines can be steep if you push the zoning folks too far. HUNDREDS perhaps THOUSANDS, not counting attorney fees.
If YOU received a writen notice, you already have a file started with that town. A paper going out usually means it will require a paper coming IN that shows what action was agreed upon to settle the problem.
The way things are these days with the EPA, they could bankrupt you in a heartbeat if they want to suddenly clean up an "ENVIROMENTAL HAZARD".
Another suggestion is...check with the PLANNING BOARD in your town. It MAY be possible someone($$$$$) has purchased (or wants to purchase) the property adjacent to yours and the vehicles will be an eyesore. Maybe a housing project going up???
If you do nothing else, follow up on that "Keep your cars" response and get the agreement in writing. ON OFFICIAL TOWN LETTERHEAD PAPERWORK.
Isnt it illegal for them to walk around my property withought permission, They had to walk back there to see them unless they were in a helicopter.
Here they make monthly flights all over the county looking for zoning violations. I was caught for a chain link dog pen and a deck from one of those flights. The tried in person, but since I work during they day I ended up getting a letter.
Since I did not get a permit (I would have had I known even an unattached deck or dog pen needed one) I had to pay fine and the permit fee, and of course my property taxes went up too.
The only other thing I could have done is rip it all out. I was also informed that ANYTHING you do to improve your property including PLANTING TREES is subject to taxes!
Another thought, to expand on something that was already mentioned, is the possibility that someone is diming you out hoping to get you in a financial mess and lose the property.
Has anyone expressed interest in your land lately?
