Last night the wife and I went out to dinner and took the truck. We left the house and driving down the street, I noticed the truck felt like it was missing. Got to a traffic light and could feel it stumble at idle at the light. Pulling off from traffic lights and accelerating in general felt like it was significantly down on power. It did this all the way to the restaurant. We had dinner and left about 1.5 hours later and it was fine all the way home. I drove it again today and it was fine. Last night it was very foggy and warm when we left and not so foggy when we returned home. The check engine light did not come on, so I assume it didn't set any codes. The truck has 8x,xxx miles, 5.4, automatic. Has anyone ever experienced anything similar? Or is this symptomatic of a coil or injector going bad? Thanks for any ideas.
Sounds like the classic IAC stumble. It is starting to stick and that's why it's fine one time and messed up the next. You can replace it or try and clean it. I replaced mine.
Get it scanned anyways.... you can set a soft code that won't trip the CEL. Could be a coil going bad. Also could be an injector going bad(they tend to show themselves right after startup, and after warming up it goes away)....
Update: Today I put my SCT tuner on the truck and there were no stored DTCs. Next step will be cleaning the throttlebody and inspecting/cleaning or replacing the IAC. Thanks for the tips.
