Well, I got them in the mail this week, but have only had time to put 4 of them in. I was down to only 2 working, so it was time to put new ones in. The PSD doesn't start too well without them. I was surprised at how easy it was to change. Maybe Tuesday I'll get the other 4 in. I'll keep you posted.
What`s the cost of the g/plugs?
Mine are around $25 each depending on where.
The rebuilt pump and injectors with some labour was around $1,000 give or take.
The cheapest I could find around here was $22 each. I got a set from dieselcare.com for $60 plus shipping and border fees. Came out to around $120 for the set.
My dad's truck had junk champions in it when he got it. We'd replace one and another one would burn out. We were putting in the ford ones and after doing 3 we said screw it and replaced them all. It's been like 2 years and they are all still working good.
i'm sure guys will have different preferences. one thing i've learned about fords and their electrical system is they run best if kept with Ford parts.
Most of the guys there recommended the Auto Zone zd11 glowplugs. Those are the ones I got. They all agreed that you should stay away from Autolite. They were unanimous on that point.
Nope. Never had the chance. But, I figured if the guys on the diesel forum said it, there's a good chance it'll be that way. I know, that's maybe a little too trusting, but those guys have saved me thousands of dollars in repair costs already. Next time I bump into a local tech, I'll have to ask.
Autozone in the states had for a while (and think they still do) a sale on the ZD-11 plugs. A lot of American guys bought up big bunches of the plugs @ 2.99 a piece and started selling them on Ebay for $5-$12 a piece, that's where I got mine from. $64 including shipping to Winnipeg for 8 plugs. Got my cousin's mechanic to put them in for $180. Then I figured out that the gp relay was going bad and a new relay made the system work 100%. Turn the gp's on a few times and I can get her to start at -30C.
