tightening the steering box will certaily help but only if it's loose. i replaced mine with a redhead unit with no difference. mis-diagnosis on my part. the redhead unit is a quality rebuilt but it didn't help my problem. if you adjust the box be sure the wheels are straight ahead. if you make it too tight the steering wil bind. if so just back the screw off a bit until it turns freely. you will have to drive it to test it because these trucks won't turn well when standing still. j.o.
I've got 200k on my '99-350, replaced ball joints ayear or two ago and new tie rod and replaced one hub. Then not long ago noticed alot of play in the steering. Got a friend to turn the wheel back and forth while I was under the front, I could here the st.box gears ratteling in there. replaced the st. box and now it drives like new again, amazing difference.
You can adjust alittle play out but, after it gets as loose as mine it's time to replace it. Good luck!
what do you mean peelin paint . my wife has a 02 X (7.3 of course)do i have something to look forward to ?
Not sure if it will happen to you or not... many on here have had problems with paint blistering and peeling with no rust underneath... mine is around the door windows...it has something to do with Fords primer/paint process on certain colors, assembly runs or just plain bad luck..
