My O-ring rant, sort of....

To all of you who have replaced the O-rings on the fuel filter drain valve, my hat's off to you!
I did mine this weekend, and what a PITA that was!! I could barely get my fat hands in there, and of course my worklight kept moving on me so I couldn't see a thing. And I must have dropped my ratchet in the valley at least five times due to my slippery, diesel soaked fingers.
It wasn't too bad though, the temps were in the twenties, with a stiff breeze, so every time I whacked my hand or fingers, they were too numb to feel it!

But seriously, thanks to all of you in these forums, I wouldn't be able to fix things like this myself, (or even know that it needed to be fixed) if it weren't for you guys & gals!
I've learned so much about my truck, these forums are a lifesaver for all of us first-time diesel owners!! Thanks again!

Yeah, I hear ya and feel your pain! There is virtually no room there, especially depending on how many add-ons you have. I replaced mine for the second time. Seems to be a yearly maintanance item...

just do the fuel bowl delete mod and then you will have plenty of room to move around, and no more pesky orings either.

Yeah, I have the fat fingers issue. When I did mine I had to fumble with it but got it done and no leaks since. Good luck with yours!

So far so good, no leaks (knock on wood). Does the fuel bowl delete do away with the filter? I would think not having a fuel filter would be pretty risky....

Yes, it does away with the stock filter and bowl. In replacement there is a 2 micron filter that is put right after the pump on the frame rail, so you do not loose your filtering ability. see my gallery for some pics.

Got an idea.... the fuel bowl is relatively low presure.... Try Silicone O rings.... I have a whole Cat (Caterpillar) O-Ring kit... Almost any size a person could use and about $350 LOL... Love being a company worker... Free for me.

I just replaced mine as well, and I have to agree its a PITA! I am wondering how many other o-rings I am going to have to replace due to ULSD? I found out I can still get LSD at a local gas station, that is until they switch. They are the only one I have found in the area that has not switched. The owner must have and older diesel truck. lol
