ok my truck is leaking oil right in front of the driver side motor mount... it is a little higher then the mount but it appears to be at the main front of the block... any ideas on what this could be???

 

Sounds like the oil cooler. Is the leak coming from the cylindrical "thing" that runs along the drivers side under the exhaust manifold from the front of the engine to the oil filter? You might have to get a mirror in there to confirm where it's leaking, but this is the most common problem with those symptoms. Does it only leak when the engine is cold, or all the time? Usually they'll start leaking just after startup, and once the engine warms up it'll "reseal", that's usually your warning that it's time to do that job very soon.

Do a search for "oil cooler leak, repair" or other combinations and you should find plenty of reading. Coles notes version of the repair consists of draining your coolant, removing the cooler, taking it apart, cleaning the mating surfaces, installing new o-rings, and then press it back together. You'll need a jig and some good clamps to do it properly, nothing special, just a few boards to hold everything pretty square while clamping it together. Then reinstall with new gaskets. That's the simplified version. lol

Not an easy fix, but capable for the diy'er, biggest problem is working around the inner fender, most folks trim it in a few tactical spots to allow the use of longer extensions and such. Powerstrokeshop has an oil cooler seal kit with the gaskets and o-rings you'll need for $50 or so. This should be the proper link

thanks man it looks like that is where it is coming from... and i had no clue what that thing was... but it has oil ran all the way back to the back of the tranny...
