Wiper problems...

So my windsheild wipers on my 88 turn on when they feel like it. I can hear a ticking noise under the dash when they don't work. Almost like they are shorting out. Is there a relay for them that could be bad or is the switch going out?

I'm not 100% certain on the 88, but I know on the earlier ones, the relay was in the switch. For example, you could switch from the stock wiper switch (off - slow - fast) to the optional (deeeeeeeelay - off - slow - fast) just by switching the switch out. I imagine it's similar on later models, just a little more fancy looking.

Do you have intermittent wipers? They have an extra part that sometimes goes bad.

The extra part is called an "interval wiper governor". It is a small box directly under the wiper switch. Hopefully that is not the problem because they can be hard to get.

Yeah I have the interval wipers. I guess I will have to tear into it and find out what is going on.
