About how much does a rebuild go for? I know it's diffrent from shop to shop but i'm just looking for a ball-park figure. Generaly what do they fix? My trucks an '88 with 218,000 miles on it and I'd feel better if it was closer to new.
hey,i would assume that for about a grand you could get a good stock rebuild. but we all know that you could spend as much as 5000-10,000$ on a rebuild,it just depends on what you plan on doing.i would suggest sitting down with a pen and paper and really think about what you want...good luck.
My rebuild just cost me $825. Mine had 236,000 miles a broken ring and a very bad manifold. So I had it bored 30 over and the crank ground. The head was in great shape but the values were gone. so new valves, rockers, and push rods. I had the block and head boiled. They also checked the head surface to make sure it also was good. I had the manifold milled, because I picked up a used one for $20.00 (what a steal and I didn't even a gun) They also put the new pistons together. I don't have a press, to do the wrist pins, that was 40 bucks. the engine kit with a new stock cam was $415 labor at the machine shop was $410. I also spent right a 200 bucks for things like plugs, wires, water pump, coil, cap, paint, air filter, oil filter, oil and the list goes on. So to date 010327 I will have spent 1025.00 Please don't tell my wife, I haven't gotten the credit card statement yet. I might be single real soon, o'well. Cheers
You can get a complete new long block (crate engine) from Ford for around $1100. If you're planning to keep everything stock, I'd say that would be the route to go. As stated above, machining isn't cheap, not to mention it's time consuming.
Also, are you planning to rebuild the engine yourself, or pay someone to do it? Most shops are getting somewhere in the neighborhood of $35-45 an hour for labor.
One last thing to consider is how long can you go without your truck? Going the long block route would be alot quicker than having your current engine rebuilt. Hope this helps.
