I have a 78 Ford Step-side truck I replaced the heater core and the radiator and also the thermostat. Im having a problem when the heater fan is on high there is cold air but when I have it on low there is some heat coming out of it. Any good pointers??
A 180 is more of a summer T-stat, you should change that out for a 195. Have you let the truck run for a bit and felt the heater hoses? They both should be very hot to the touch. Post up from there and it gives us a better idea as to what to look for.
Some of these trucks have a garden style turn off in one heater hose, to
keep the flow out of the cab in the summer, mostly on (AC)trucks, but I have
ran across the turn off on some non(AC) trucks!
P.S. the water in the hose still gets a little warm! Also make sure the water
valve is opening, it works off a cable.

I ran the truck today for about 10 miles. Temp. gauge went to the r on normal and when I got home I felt the hoses one is alot cooler than the other.I have in a new heater core and radiator and thermostat. Is there a flow problem now? If so where do I start??

D4AZ-18495-A .. Vacuum (Operated) Heater Water Valve (Motorcraft YG-136)
This valve is plastic/metal, splices into the heater hose at the right rear passenger side of the engine compartment. On the top of the valve is a nipple for the vacuum hose.
This heater water valve was a POS from day one, and has been on Ford's "All Time" parts best seller list since 1974. Many have been removed, or something subbed in place of it.
BTW: Also fits 1971/1990 Ford Crown Vics / Lincoln Town Cars / Mercury Grand Marquis without ATC.

the heater core isn't allowing coolant flow. try reversing the hoses and see what happens. both hoses should be hot...if one is cold, you can assume that there's no coolant in it (at lease not coolant that is in circulation). if not, your heater core might be blocked, new or not.
