This sounds crazy... I can't believe it myself. After plowing for an extended period of time w/ my 04 350 6.0L, battery power was so low, the truck stalled when I hit the button to raise the plow. After a jump start, I had the alt tested, charging fine. Both batteries load tested fine also. The tech I spoke with suggested cleaning the terminals really well and giving the batteries a full charge and reconnect. So my odometer reads 23684 before I did this, now it reads 38739! I magically put 15000 miles on in my driveway with the hood up. Is there any known cause for this, and more importantly, is it reversible?
take it to the dealer. you have to let them work on it. My last truck the odometer stopped working and i was gonna fix it myself until someone informed me that odometer tampering and i would never be able to sell it.
Don't forget to bring any proof that you have of the actual mileage like receipts for tire rotation or oil. I’m sure the dealer will be very leery of this assuming you are trying to extend your warranty or jest rolling the miles back. WOW that sucks. Best of luck I hope it works out. Let us know what happens.
Thanks for the advice guys. The odometer is registering in kms and not miles, 2.4+ for each mile driven. I did take it to the dealer and they are blown away also, as they can't find any way to swap it back. I have another appointment with a different dealer that has more experienced techs with the electronics, recommended by the first dealer. I hope they can come up with something. I know the PCM registers alot of details, number of keystarts, etc. Does anyone know if it registers the odometer reading between keystarts? It would be helpful to make my case.
Is your truck a Lariat? If so there should be a way to change to metric and back to standard by accessing the menu. I know mine can be changed that way.
If not your dealer should be able to check it out with the IDS computer?
He says he has an '04. I don't know if it is the same as my '06, but if it is, here are the instructions on how to change it using the buttons located to the right side of the steering wheel:
