Hi all, I for the life of me cannot find the IAC on my explorer. I have seen several posts referencing an article about the IAC, but the engine layout in the article looks different than mine. Is the IAC located under the black plastic manifold cover on the drivers side? Again, it's a 2004 XLT 4.0L. I appreciate your help.
I called the parts dept. and they said it does have one (costs $45, which sounds cheap to me). I am having an idle issue. The truck does not stall, but does not idle smoothly....not too bad, but enough to notice it when stopped. No engine codes have been thrown. From what I've read, it sounds like the IAC or possibly manifold gasket leak.

I sprayed some carb cleaner around the manifold and hoses, but no uptick in idle occured. Also added injector cleaner with last two fillups, changed plugs and wires w/ oem parts, sprayed MAF with electrical parts cleaner. Any other ideas I can try?
Plugs? Might have a plug issue, and the color of the plugs might give you more info as to what's going on. A weak spark would manifest itself in the plug. Do you hear any ticking in rhythm with the motor? Does the off idle shudder go away if the motor is revved in idle or does it get worse? Does the truck fall on it's face when you take off from a dead stop?
The plugs looked OK. The truck runs fine once you get over 1000 RPM...no hesitation or skipping when moving. The idle is rough when hot and cold. Tried to replace the fuel filter, but could not get the darn thing off...tried both the scissor fuel line release tool and the circular one.
Sounds like a vacuum leak to me, but you said that all the hoses were sealed. What about the PCV? Pull it and if it rattles then you're fine, if it dosen't then you need a new one. A blown one will mess up vacuum.
