I have a 1988 Ford F150 xlt Lariat (4.9L I6) with the 5speed Mazda Transmission that the gears are wearing fast. Are the 5 speed Mazda Trannies that are in Rangers the same transmission that I have in my truck? If not, Where can I locate a rebuild kit for the top end of the Tranny? I use my truck on a daily basis pulling a 6x12 enclosed trailer and I average 4000 miles per month. The engine is unbeatable. I cannot find a replacement tranny from a salvage yard unless the Ranger 5speed is the same. A rebuild would be cheaper than a new tranny. However, a new tranny is cheaper than a new truck. HELP PLEASE. Desperate in South Georgia.......................
the ranger has a different bellhousing pattern. I would use a NP435 four speed but it won't have overdrive which is probably useless pulling a trailer anyway.
You should be able to find a rebuilt M5OD through Autozone, Checkers or Napa. By the way the transmission in the ranger is different from the M5OD you now have in your truck. DO NOT swap the transmission with one from a Ranger!!!
