After ice fishing last night (I live in Northern Michigan,) I swung by my parents place to shoot the bull. When I went to leave 20 minutes later, I couldn't get my truck to start. It would turn over fine, but it was like it wasn't getting any gas. It's been cold up here, but not THAT cold. It's been starting fine all winter. We tried hitting it with some starting fluid and it would run briefly, then die again. Could it be the fuel pump? Would that sort of thing just stop all of the sudden?
Thanks for any input - I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this stuff.
haha... sorry to hear that you didnt catch any fish! your right your fuel pump may be done, but one way to tell if its gone or not, is to have your dad maybe stand next to the gas tank and listen while you turn your key on to the "on" position, but not so that the starter turns over, you know what I mean? you should hear an electronic pump running....(ps I should of asked first, but what is your truck? is it the 1996?) also you shoudl try dumping some gas line anti-freeze into it, never hurts in cases like this...
you also have the other tank as well eh... did you try starting it while changing to the other tank?
just some ideas for you, hope it helps.... and good luck with the fishing...
Did it feel weird or anything while you were driving it to your parents. Sluggish, hesitating or anything like that. If not check your fuel lines, fuel filter, also turn your key on and try to listen to see if the pump is coming on. Do you have dual tanks try switching the selector between tanks. Are you sure your gas gauge is working properly and you didn't run it out of gas. Just some suggestions
Damn benderracing, you must type real fast cause you beat me by a minute, and we also have some of the same ideas.LOL Oh and by the way don't keep hitting it with starting fluid, it ain't good.

Thanks for the input, guys. Sorry about not adding details (yes, it is a 1996.) It was early when I put up this post, and didn't think about it until I was half way to work.
Anyway, I didn't try the rear tank last night, because there was no gas in it. Never use the rear tank becuase it's too hard to keep one filled these days, let alone 2! Threw a little gas in the rear tank and she fired up after a few attempts and is running like a champ. No noise from the front tank - guess that means the pump is in the tank and not working (told ya I was clueless.)
Thanks again for all the help. I'm sure I'll be back again.
haha... self taught! i guess thats what happens when my previous job was for the department of transportation, and i had a lot of spair time on my hands!!!
