I'm looking for opions on how to make turning with manuel steering easier.narrower frt tires ? smaller or larger diameter steering wheel than OEM and anything else ?? Thanks
lol Dennis...Thats true though, make sure ecerything is smooth by greasing it and making sure all bearings are in good shape...Or go find an old junker and get the power steering assembly...
Hi. If your truck came with manual steering originally, I believe it also came with a slightly larger diameter steering wheel than used with PS. I'm wondering if someone replaced the original wheel with a smaller aftermarket wheel?
Wonder if a heavy duty truck wheel is even larger diameter than the stock manual wheel, and would fit?
That's a grand one, Dennis. I don't think the PS vs Manual steering wheels were larger or vice versa. The columns are different at the end. The medium duty trucks and heavy duty trucks steering wheels are larger.
My one ton trucks have the same steering wheels as a half ton truck, with or without PS. Anything over a ton has bigger wheels all around.
I have drove F-100s without power streering for years, and it becomes a
''style of driving'' try to make sure to cut your wheels slowly while moving,
like when backing up cut the wheel while moving. It's a lot easier on your
back, neck, shoulders, and on your streering column! Try it,it works great!
My uncle says back in the old days driving a semi with no power this or that on trucks, was all in the bi-cepts hince the sport or game of arm-wrestling.
My trucks have no ps on a heavy one ton chassis. Wanna feel my guns? ahha. It's not to bad to steer when you're rolling. Advoid trying to turn when you're at a dead stop, and avoid dead end streets.

I'm actually looking to swap my p/s sytem out for a manual one. I prefer the simplicity of the system, and on a 2wd, i'm not too concerned with the increase in elbow grease needed to turn it at low speeds.
I saw mentioned above, though, that the column is different for p/s and m/s. Will I need to grab another column as well as another manual box in order to do the swap?
(And, if anyone wants my p/s pump or box, I'd be willing to give it away - they'd be good as cores)
