What the heck is up with these trucks and brakes had rear calipers and rotors at 27k under warranty the calipers were sticking then right front brake hose at 32k out of pocket needed the truck asap had local mechanic put one on now at 36500miles took it in for inspection right front caliper sticking bad rotors and new pads 428 bucks ouch not really complaining just wondering if anyone else has been through this
The brake calipers on these trucks are prone 2 sticking for two reasons. Brake fluid contamination or the incorrect tool was used to compress the caliper during a brake job.
i agree with you in theory but the rears were factory all oem equipment and the fronts were the oem hqw could it be contamination or improper install on oem stuff
While slightly off topic, I agree: the factory brakes are weak both in performance and durability. My fronts were vibrating so badly at 34,886 miles that I replaced them. I went to Ford and bought 'improved' rotors (p/n BRR-120). I was suspect, but they came in a 'Ford' box, and are beefier. ($80.60 ea.) I slipped them on and ran them with the old pads to season them for about 2k miles, then put in new pads. (I have long ago found that bedding them in this way makes them last much longer). The pads are also Ford (p/n BRSD-1083, $83.52). They are also Ford, and say "Super Duty" on the box. Slipped them in and boy-oh-boy, my brakes are great!!! Much improved pedal feel, better stopping force, and, at 46,553 miles, I am a happy camper. Hope this helps. Brian
thanks I just cant believe the quality of these parts its agreat truck fits my need very well have had a lot of ford trucks and never had brake problems like this
I had a 1997 explorer and went through brakes and rotors every 35k religiously........I have 4000 mile on my 07 f150 xl and can already see grooves starting in the rotors.......Im gonna go with aftermarket american made brakes from napa when i replace them.................
My rears have some shimmy in them already too. Does warranty cover replacement of all those parts or would they turn me away? I just bought this truck a week ago; I'm not ready to dump $300 in it right off the bat. Opinions??
My Ranger's front brakes have always given me problems. The right caliper has been sticking for as long as I can remember; I had to replace the pads at 55K and had the rotors turned not long after; now at 89K it needs pads and rotors AGAIN. Can't turn them because they're so thin to begin with, only one turn is about all they can handle.
