I defer to your expertise, as I'm a rank amateur with the Slicks. I have a 62 uni with a 223 and 3 spd so I'm learning. Thanks for the corrections.

In this case, Cars & Parts did.
G = MX Cruise-O-Matic ~ 1965/67 F100/350 ~ 352 V8 / 1965/67 F350's with a 240 or 300 I-6.
6 = C4 1965/67 F100/250 ~ 240/300 I-6
The number 6 was mis-identified as a G.
And as y'all can plainly see, there were other mistakes pertaining to the G code as well.Info source: 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog / General Information Section / Main Transmission Codes / Page 76

Did'ja notice this is the same VIN you decoded elsewhere?
The thread had to do with transmissions.

E,N - Red vinyl interior/woven plastic
81 - conventional cab
G - C4 automatic Corrected above ^^
D5000 = The D is incorrect. It should read 05000 = 5,000 lbs. GVWR = Gross Vehicle Weight RATING.
The truck is rated at 5,000 lbs. Which means the maximum amount of weight that can be carried safely.
This includes the weight of the truck, driver, passengers and cargo.
61 - Direct special order code for Dallas, Texas
The N code could refer to Platinum, a color used on 1965/66 T-Birds.
Ford would paint trucks in colors specified for cars if the customer requested it. So, the N code may be correct after all.
The N paint code doesn't belong under the Body Code, which is E81. And there's an omission there, too.
E81: E = Red Interior / 81 = 81B Custom Cab
When a letter is the first digit of the Body Code, it means that the cab style is a Custom Cab (81B).
When a number is the first digit of the Body Code, it means that the cab style is a Standard Cab (81A).
DSO can refer to two different things = the 2 digit District Sales Office code or the 6 digit Domestic Special Order code.
In this case: 61 = Dallas TX Ford District Sales Office ~ Where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
JMO...I wouldn't suggest anyone buying that Cars & Parts Ford ID book anytime soon. It's rife with errors!
For prolly the same price you can get a faaar better reference.
From hipoparts.com = the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog on a CD.
The BEST reference guide you can buy when owning these old rolling piles of misery!
The exploded views of parts illustrations alone are worth the price, plus you get all the parts numbers, and can decode every 1964/72 truck VIN in the US.

I've noted a few other errors in that publication, but most of my research has been in the 48-52 area.
Thanks too for the tip on reference books - I'll check out hipoparts.com.
the sterring colum used to house a shifter in it. it has been removed.
a 4 sp manual tranny(on the floor) is in it now. you can see where it was cut out and installed. the engine is a 352 fe. what i want to know is did it come with the c4 tranny? i read all the comments and thank you for translating the door code.
your translation says g17 = ( g= c4 tranny) (17= ford 9" 3.25 ratio).
i guess what i learned is i need to put either a c.o.m or c6 tranny in it
if i want a automatic tranny?
it looks like the original was a 3 speed manual on the colum. i guess this is the 3sd mx c.o.m. both c4 and c6 are automatic trannys right? jeff

C4's WERE NOT used with the 352 (or 360/390) engine.
Matic is short for automatic.
First auto trans: Hydra-Matic / First car/year that used Hydra-Matic = 1940 Oldsmobile.
If your truck has a G trans code, it WAS a 3 speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission, not a 3 speed manual.
