I got the transfer case shift motor and it looks easy to replace except that there are two wires that seem to connect to the outside of the transmission. Maybe some sort of ground or something?? The unit is easy to take off though the connector is pretty hard to take apart. What are the two wires for and how do I hook them into the connector?
thanks if you can help at all pal.
pop the red d-ring out of the middle of the plug on the motor. its a pain but do-able. then you should beable to pull the wires out the back side of the plug. make sure you remember the color sequence. then just plug the wires into the new plug put the red ring back in the middle and your set. plug and go!!!
Not sure which wires you're talking about here bigal. I'll have a look at mine once I get dressed but you should just able to hook it back up exactly the same way you took it off...
Went out and snapped a pic of my t-case. I think the wires you are referring to are for the low range sensor in the t-case. Does what it sounds like it does, sense when the t-case is in low range so it can indicate it on the dash with a light Here's what mine looks like:
Hey bigal, the more I looked at it... It looked like you couldn't pull the shift motor without pulling those wires (which are locked in under the tailshaft housing). And by the way, there's also a speed sensor in there, forgot about that. The two lighter colored wires going into the rubber do-hickey is your speed sensor, the brown is for your range position sensor (like I mentioned before).
Anyways, I checked my repair manual and it appears that you're supposed to somehow pull those wires out of the older harness... Took a couple screenshots, here:
I've actually never had to replace my shift motor so I never had to deal with this. Please keep us updated on how you work it out.
