make sure you pay attention to where the bolts come out they are 2 length bolts.
the nut on the fan clutch is left hand thread when reinstalling fan clutch use a little threadlock on the threads as they have been known to screw off when killing the engine big mess and usually hole in radiator. easy job though good luck.
the top 2 bolt are shorter then the rest, make sure you get the fan hub as tight as you can get it, and don't use thread locker on it. you will pay hell the next time you replace it. makes it alot harder to get off next time. or you my not get it off. just be carefull on where you put all the bolts back in. its not a hard job, but if you don't pay attention it will cost you more than a water pump! i've seen it rip the injection pump housing right off the engine. i know i shouldn't say that, not to scare you, but take note on where all the water pump bolt came from! and put them back the way they came out,and you should be fine. i've done alot of work on the 6.9/7.3 litre diesels
be carefull please!!
i forgot to tell everybody i've worked on all the diesels! duetz, perkins, ford 6.6/7.8 inline six/cat/cummins/detroit/6.9l/7.3l/first,second and thrid gen 7.3L jokes, chokes or strokes, macks as well! even the big rigs!
Good way to make sure you get them right.
As you remove the bolts, stick them in the correct hole on the new water pump.
When the old one is off, transfer the bolts to the correct holes in the old one.
Now as you install the bolts, you can be sure the right bolt is going in the right hole.
Also when the water pump is off, you will see that a couple bolts go into the plate that seperates the timing gears from the water pump.
Those bolts must have thread sealant on the threads before you install them.
you're welcome,
you really have to be carefull is what i'm trying to tell you! and you can tear some stuff up. like i said before its not a hard job if you don't pay attention to the details it will be catastroffic!
