I'm looking to purchase a new 2002 F150. I plan to tow a boat that will be in the 6000-6500lb range including trailer, etc. I'm leaning towards the 7700lb payload package, as it seems to include a lot of good heavy duty upgrades such as the tranny. Should I narrow my search to only F150s with this 7700lb package?
Also, as far as the 4x4 electric shift, is it required to drive forward a certain distance to actually get into 4-wheel drive, and drive in reverse or something to get out? I'm wondering if I'm better off with a manual 4x4 shift to positively get in and out of 4-wheel drive on a boat ramp, for example.
