Alright i have been having a weird idle issue as of late. Basically the truck (92 f-150 w/ 94 302 5.0) runs fine, great in fact. However when i would come to a stop the truck would idle REALLY low and then stall 90% of the time.
Now this morning i was going to work and needed to put the truck in 4high, well i couldn't tell if the truck was in the right "mode" because the little 4X4 light didn't come on for a while. So needless to say i worked the shifter for a while until the light came on, actually missing the gear in the process. But once i got everything settled, my truck stopped stalling (at least for now) when i come to a stop.
Anyone have any ideas as to what was causing the stalling? I was thinking TPS, or maybe a bad IAC. Surely not anything from the tranny, or transfer case.
My low idle/stall was cured when I cleaned my IAC. Very easy to do on mine......2 bolts hold it on the TB.........took it off then took it apart. 2 screws hold it together. Then spray a LOT of TB cleaner in it and let it soak. Get it good and clean and then drive the truck till the computer re-learns. Mine had a high idle for a day.......now it's fine.
Check your throttle body tubes, look for tears around theTB. Mine did the same thing on my 95 F150 302 auto. Plus I clean the TB and IAC real good, runs fine now. Believe or not I got 16.1mpg in the city, not too bad for truck with 158000 miles on it.
