3 phase power

Well I just got a new welder at auction for cheap. The guy said that it needs 480 3-phase to run, my question is how do you get 3-phase hoked up and how much does it cost.

I don't know about Pa, but 3 phase power is only allowed in commercial or industrial areas and not in residential out here.

You could get a big-ol generator.

There may be some type phase converter that can be used.

Depending on th machine, the power supply could probably be changed out or re-linked to run on single phase.
What is the machine? Any model numbers, id tag, etc?

According to Lincoln's site, that is a single/split phase machine. It should be possible to run that off houshold 220.

You can make you own 3 phase converter with a large 10-15 3 Phase motor, and large oil filled caps. Its not perfect but it works.

You should NEVER "see what happens" with electricity, espeically 220v at upwards of 40 amps!
