On my way to work this morning, front tank selected, the guage showed 1/2 tank. On the way home this evening I happened to look down and the guage was reading beyond the Full mark. As I started watching it it was moving all over the place between E and F............
Switched to the rear tank and the guage was working properly.
Any suggestions as to some problem areas that might cause this?
Possibly a sending unit going bad in the front tank. It could also involve the switching between the front and rear tank. There is a chance that you could switch back and forth a few times and it will clear up. If it doesn't then check for loose or damaged wires, and if your truck is like mine you can just about see the make sure nothing fell down in there and damaged any wires. Last resort would be to drop the tank and check the sending unit. You can also compare the resistance readings on the front tank to the resistance readings on the rear tank and that should put you in the ballpark.
