My truck has been acting up. Seems like once it gets hot it will only shift to 2 and 3 with no conveter lock up. Every now and again I will notice the OD light flash so I hooked it up to my scanner. It wouldn't communicate at first so I returned my programmer to stock and it still wouldn't communicate. Eventually got it to do something but it is tuchy sometimes cutting in and out seems like it is hit or miss if it will work.
One time i did get it to work and show live data the gear pos said it was in 1st when in P, N, R 1, and OD when I put it in 2nd it would say 2nd. I realize it should say 1st when in 1 and OD but figured it would say P N or R when in those gears. Also a few times when I was trying to get the scanner to work it would say that it was not in P or N when trying to run KOEO codes.
Not sure what this means but I had 2 spots on my road that if I started at one i would hit 70 by the time I hit the next. Worked every time when I had the tunner in OFF ROAD/ NO TOW. I put it to stock tonight and it still smokes the same and i hit 70 everytime by the next spot.
Thinking my tunner might have messed up my ECM. Any ideas?
Thanks
John
Someone here will have to help me out with the correct name for this thng, but there is a big switch on the side of the transmission that senses what gear you are in. Have you checked to make sure that switch is working well? I think it's on the right rear if I remember correctly, and hidden behind a heat shield, but that would be a good thing to check out first. As far as your tuner not communicating, check and clean your connector under the dash and check your cable for bent/broken pins. Always try the easy stuff first. Post back and let us know what you find.
Ya I checked the conections the best i could but dont think there is any way to make sure it is working unless you have a scanner hooked up. Someone also told me that my VSS could be causing the problem. I plan on changing it the fluid and piniion seal this weekend. The first time this happened I was out in the woods driving in 4 High in the sugar sand. when it happened i put it in 4 Low and went back to camp. Got up the next morring and it was fine for the rest of the day untill i got to the road to go home and it decided to act up. drove all the way home in 3rd with no lock up. After i let it sit and cool off it works fine untill its hot again. Guages are on the way for Christmas so i cant tell you how hot it is getting.
The thing that is weird with the tunner is that it works and tells me that it is in stock mode and it puts and takes out tunes it seems fine untill I drive it and see that it is just as fast. It there is no problem with the program being in there then it is just something wrong with my scanner which i will get on the Snap-On guy about that. But I am a big fan of checking the easy stuff first and did that and I droped the pan and changed the filter and will probly do a real tranny flush this weekend too.
