I combined the guages from a laate model GM full sized van into the stock cluster of my 49;

https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...&albumid=19829

Total cost was about $20. These are temporary (meaning 10 years or so) as I want to install a cluster from a 1958 Pontiac in the truck eventually

I am contemplating cutting the original dash out welding in some supports and building a custom steel and fiberglass dash for mine....something like this...only I'm not too sure about an integrated center counsel....

Dyce, I too am looking at modifying my dash, I still haven't come up with anything super original however, I did like the idea of the impala gauge cluster that was done in one of the custom truck magazines. If'n I come up with something I'll post it here as well as my previous post on the same subject (cosmetic surgery).

I know this is supposed to be about F1s, but for what it's worth I have seen a few Mustang dashes in F100s, complete with steering column, etc.
These same trucks had 5.0s in them, so I assume they all came from the same car.

Dyce,

You're severly limited in what you can do because of the shallowness of the dash. It would be very difficult to do anything with the eyebrows found on most car dashs from the 50's (which seem to be the most interesting ones). Because of that, you might want to stick with either of Bobby's methods - the temporary one he's using until 2011 or the one he plans to use after that.

The example you provided mocked up out of wood, would certainly work but again, with almost no depth to it, there's not a lot you can do design-wise. I suspect he may gone with the center consol to help with the rigidity of his mounting system. I assume he's welded tabs to the sides of the A posts (that's what they're called isn't it?) to bolt it to, plus bolting the consol to the floor...

There's no way you could use something like a 59 Ch*vy car dash or even a 57-60 F100 dash (like I did) because of the lack of depth aailable to you....

Good Luck.

Way back when.....well, lets just say, along time ago. I was scouring the wrecking yards looking for dash ideas. I pulled the dash top, speedo, and gauges from a 55 Buick that I was going to try and cut down to fit. Another time I brought home a complete dash out of a late 40's Plymouth. Fergie's right though, in our 48-52 trucks we don't have alot of room to work with.

Here's a to a site with tons of pics, and a whole section to dashes. Maybe you can find something there to trip your trigger;

Here is a link to a local truck, its a 52 Chevy (I know, I know but just look at the quality of work and the styling of this beauty) with a 61 Chrysler dash in it;

I can't wait to see what you come up with
Bobby
