When I type my VIN # into the Ford recall VIN 3 thing it comes up invalid. I've checked it about 10 times and I'm typing exactly what is on my door sticker. Is this a bad thing?

Check and see if the number on the door matches the number on the driver's side dash at the base of the windshield. I would also make sure the numbers match your title/registration.
I had a friend get his 95 Chevy CC stolen and he was very lucky to get it back. The DPS tried to make a routine stop on the truck headed south on I35. The guys in it went off the highway and into a field and bailed out. When they ran the truck plates and VIN it came up as a SW Bell truck that had been sold at auction. While searching the truck they came up with an copy of my buddy's proof of insurance and called him. He them about the truck and they checked the frame numbers and it was his truck. Interestingly enough the DMV issued him a new VIN number and it is on a sticker on the door.
