anyone got any ideas for a cheap goose neck hitch. im on a college budget, which isnt much. i wont be pulling huge loads, mainly a 7 cow trailor and a 5 bale trailor
They had a hidahitch that I had on my last truck that wasn't bad. It provided service to me for as long as I had the truck, the only negative thing I could say about it was that it was a little more involved then I would like to have had in order to flip the hitch up or down.

Matt, I got mine from these guy's. I went with the custom brackets with rails.
Not the cheapest but I can switch between goose and fifth wheel.
They have other cheaper option's, also only paid .99 for shipping.
I have a B&W in my truck and I wouldnt trade it for anything. It cost me $500 to have it installed, but if you are comfortable doing it yourself, you can buy them all day long on ebay for $330 shipped. You can get one welded in for about $125 usually, but you really don't want to do that.
The B&W is the one where the ball pulls out and turns upside down if I am not mistaken. I have the one where the ball flips sideways. I wouldnt trade it for anything either. As you could already tell. Installing them yourself is scary bc you have to cut a hole in your truck AHHHHHHHHH
I've installed two of the B&W T/O ball hitches. My kid's 01 Silverado short bed and in my 06 F250 long bed. Not such a bad job once you get past the 4" hole saw augering into the bed of your new truck. Measure three times and pray.
I will never go back to a fixed gooseneck hitch.
Other places will have them for similar price so check around. The shipping cost will range from FREE to expensive. Weighs 70 lbs. Usually around $100 to UPS.
Be sure to order for your specfic truck year/model as the measurements and frame attachments will vary.

I got lucky enough and found mine on Craig's List for $100....complete. The guy took it off his F350 cause he wasn't gonna pull anything that heavy.....A buddy of mine used to work for Parker Trailers here so I took it to his house and we had it installed in about a half hour. Took longer to get through the beer afterwards and chatting than it did to install.
Depending on how soon you need it....Keep an eye out on local ads. Craig's List is a good one to search on.
I bought mine from here, it is the cheapest place and was at my front door the next day. It was easy to install, took about an hour and a half with more BS and beer drinking than actual work. Like mentioned before the scary part is that hole you have to cut. After that goes in really easy. Good luck

Piece of 3/4" by 6" by whatever the width of the frame on your pickup is with a hole drilled in the center for the g/n ball, a g/n ball, and a welder. If you want it removable weld a nut on the bottom of the plate instead of welding the ball to the plate. Weld a plate to act as a washer on the ball with a tab on it you can hit with a hammer to tighten and loosen.
icrman,
Naw. For the B&W you measure from the end of the bed and find dead center between the wheel wells. The measurement is on the truck specific instructions that comes with the hitch. Measure twice before you take the plunge.
Take yur time and good luck.

My 96' had a homemade one and it worked great for years!!
How do you locate the hole? Do you install the whole hitch then drill a pilot hole up from the bottom?
Thanks
If you are talking about like for a B&W hitch...then you measure from the edge of the open end of the bed, (open tailgate). Measure from the edge of the BED not the tailgate, either 43 inches for directly over the axel or 46 inches for 3 inches forward of axel. Them measure from the bottom edge of each wheel well and find the center. Where the measurements cross, is where you drill from the TOP. Make sure nothing underneath is going to be in the way like electrical or fuel lines.
