Should my '07 F-150 have a ticking noise in the left side of the engine?
I'm taking the truck to the dealer to get the driver seat fixed under warranty, and I want them to check out what I think is a far-too-loud tick in the engine.
From past experience with dealers, I'm worried - I think I'm going to get an answer such as "I can't hear a thing. You are not a qualified mechanic, so there is no problem." Or the standard "They all do that. You are not a qualified mechanic, so there is no problem."
I think that I should not hear ticking in the engine from ten feet away.
If the tick is only on one side and that loud there may be a problem. All the 5.4 make noise but its not the internal engine parts. They making rapid ticking sounds from the injectors, cam phasers and thin exhaust manifolds.
Might want to have the dealer check it out..there are some posts about the 2007's that were built early have some problems with shims or something on the crank. There are some posts about this...recently one on "engine replacement". If it isn't this they are quite noisy....
I'm not sure what engine I have. I think it's the smallest V-6, tho. I'll check tomorrow.
FWIW - I wanted a new F-150. I bought mine sight-unseen. Was the last 2007 in Indiana with what I wanted: 8-foot bed, no options, and shiney, altho it had upgraded tires, an appearance package, (whatever the heck that is) and an increased load capacity. I have blinged it out a little, and will add power windows, power locks, cruise control, and a couple of other things.
Difference in gas mileage between my old 5.8L F-150 and this new one saves me a couple of hundred dollars a month. (I drive a lot!)
