The biggest problem I have with ethanol is my tax dollars are being used to subsidize farmers growing the crops to produce it. Joe Taxpayer shouldn't have to underwrite these businesses if they have to rely on aid in order to compete.

You guys need to go to FTE's alternative fuels forum and do some reading there. Lots of good info on ethanol and biodiesel.
The key is that petroleum is finite and ethanol and biodiesel are renewable. We have a long way to go to get there, but it is a very worthwhile goal to change over to renewables. We are sending hundreds of billions of dollars every year to OPEC countries, most of whom would like to see us dead. If we had the political will to change over we would be cutting them off at the ankles. Cut off their oil revenue and they will be back to living in tents and not creating a threat to the civilized world.
