I am comtemplating on how to do the exhaust for my F250 once the 410 is ready to be slid between the rails. My truck is a 'camper special' and has the second tank under the bed on the drivers side. After looking at the exhaust manifolds, I am leaning towards headers-TBC'd, w/locking fasteners, and the copper gaskets (gotta do it this way or they'll look like garbage and leak pretty fast). From looking around, nobody makes headers for this application. Anybody have an idea where I could find a set? Long tube or shorties, any help would be appreciated.
But you do need to get creative when routing the exhaust with dual tanks. My '68 F250 CS has the pipes crossing under the frame rails and running down each side outside the frame rails. Not the best solution but I've nver hit them on anything.
On my '72, I crossed the driver's side pipe over to pass. side and ran them side by side. Other folks here have come up with other workable solutions as well.
If it is a "highboy" truck, there is only one set of headers that will fit around the engine mounts on the passenger side....Dynomax 86055 (or 85066..lol) summit carries them, but even they don't always specify that they will actually fit the truck.
Strangely enough I bought the $200 kit from Summit that had Dynomax headers and dual kit. I used the paper gaskets and after 4 yrs, they just now started to blow out on one pipe. Careful installation, torquing evenly and starting in the middle and working towards the end will help make sure they come down flat and even.
Not every set works as good as mine, maybe got lucky(for once)? You'll need to get creative on piping as mentioned. Last CS I saw had them run to the outside of frame and back.
Unimog- it is just a 2WD, non-highboy.
TD- I'll search Summit like you have suggested.
FT- Likewise, I'll look at the kit in Summit.
I figured on bringing the DS pipe down and then having to have it head towards the PS, then tuck the two pipes and a tight X-cross over between the frame and the bedside(shorty headers w/'ball'-style flange would be my ideal). Pipe size would be 2 1/2";if I used 3"in the section ahead of the mufflers they would be necked down to 2 1/2" after the mufflers and exit either just in front of the back tire or in the factory location. Mufflers would most likely be Dynomax or some compariable brand-no Flow*******s (I know alot of folks like 'em, but this is no race car/hotrod and I don't like to live w/the sound characteristics on 'em) at $65 apiece minimum. For tips I will use a generic pair of Summit stainless tips
