i have a 93 ford f-350 7.3 non turbo crew cab 4x4. right now it is an automatic but i want to switch it over to a manual tranny... i have been looking at the newer ford 6 speed manual tranny's. my question is this, does anyone know if the newer superduty tranny's will fit or how much modifying will have to be done to stick one in the old 7.3? any help with this would be great thanks...
alright another question. breaks. i have replaced about everything on the truck as far as breaks, replaced... the master cylinder (twice) the vaccume booster, the rabs valve (small box on inside frame rail front driver side) all new back break components... and the peddle still looses preassure when you push on it. i am baffled on it... any more tips would help thanks
Are you pushing hard after a stop........... do you have any lights coming on. There have been some posts on several forums re the new 6 speed in the IDI I would google for the answers.
Re the brakes have you tried replacing the check valve and washer at the booster.... some say that works.
I have the same problem with my brakes but sometimes they will get better though. I have replaced almost everything but someone told me the vacum pump was the answer. I haven't gotten around to it yet though.
I have replaced the master cyl and booster as one item and had 3 bad ones in a row. The re-manufacturer sometimes has a very bad batch of them. We had the same problem at work. They went thru 3 sets before getting a good one. Yes we checked vacuum before hand. Checked with auto parts store and yes they had seen this before. Bad remans.
i changed the master 2 times just for that reason, i guess a third time wont kill me... lol and i have never checked the heater or defrost when i stop will have to check that. i have replaced the vaccume booster as well but with one out of our junk yard so hard to tell if it worked or not wither. thanks for the tips i will give those a try and see what i come up with if anything... and i will check google for the tranny swap also. and the name is a long story. but the just of it is all our friends think we are swingers so we made the name to mess with them... lol
sounds like you have air in the system , and depending on which RABS valve you have one style has a bleeder on it which must be bleed it might just need to be power bleeded with a commercial bleeder
the trans could be changed out but in my opinion it isnt worth both the time and expense plus it costs a lot more to repair the manuals and then theres the cost of the clutch
The main problem with the tranny is that there will be no place on the new 6 spd to put a speedometer. The old five speeds will work fine, even the ones that didn't have a speedo, i believe, as they all had a place for one.

the one i have has the bleeder on it. i blead it but still the peddle bleeds to the floor... i might have to get it done at a shop.?.? thanks

so the 5 speed would work alright? what would be the pro's and cons to having the auto tranny beefed up compared to putting a 5 speed in it? pro's and con's and cost? i heard its about 3500 to have my auto trans built? anyone know what the cost of a tranny swap with a manual would run? thanks

He's got a '93. Didn't they switch to an electronic speedo that read off the tone wheel on the diff in '92? Speedo shouldn't be a problem.
thats correct the 93 has a programable speedometer odometer module that uses the vss sensor in the rear axle , and eliminated the gear drive in the trans
