Mom and dad borrowed my truck tuesday to pick up a dryer.
about 8 miles from the house it shut off and they called me. So i went to check it out and I had the IDM out earlier last week and wanted to check the conection on that, I messed with it and i got it to start so i drove off and about 3 miles later it shut off again. Now after that last shut off i was sure i knew the problem so i went to the ford dealer and picked up a new CPS. Fired right up, and has been runing better now with the new cps than it has for 2-3 weeks. It Doenst down shift as much pulling hills like it did for a while.
A little upset that i knew it was a problem but never had one with me.
atleast it is runing and i knew what the problem was, i will have a spare now
Id rather not have the local dealer touch it lol. Id rather pay the 35 for one and get it off the side of the road than have them touch it. That and i needed in that day in that hour. i didnt have time for them to work it in or wait for it to be towed.
i did tear the old cps apart. It looks like the reason they fail is the oil saturates the inside circuit board. And the combination of the oil saturation/heat/vibration breaks the solder loose on the circuit board and it looses conection and doens't send the signal.
