Ok, I know sqwat about the 6.0 so I won't even try to pretend to. A friend has a 2007 6.0L with 15,900 miles on it. Two weeks ago he started getting about 5-6 mpg towing (10,000 lbs) and 10 around town. Now, I know there all all kinds of reasons while fuel milage will go down. But does anyone have a top 5 list of potential items that could cause fuel milage in a 6.0 to drop suddenly?
Any help will be greatly appreciated - before we bust through the 2K gallon diesel tank in record time.
Only mod is a superchip programmer - runs it in the economy setting....
wow I thought I had the worst mpg! Im getting only 10 city and MAYBE 12-14 hwy! (engine is totally stock, but I run 35" tires).... 5-6mpg towing seems insane to me.....especially with the chip????
Ft. Sill, OK.......did my A.I.T. there back in 1989, loved the weather ! Anyway, my 2007 is all stock right now (34.1" tires w/ 3.73's). I started out getting 15-16 around town, 17-18 on the highway. Now with 13,000 miles on it I'm seeing 12-13 & 14 respectively. Don't know what caused it. Decided to change fuel filters with oil change and tire rotation yesterday so I don't know if that will have any effect. I have read that winter blend fuel will cause this, but have never seen it in So. Cal.

Yep, the weather is a blast 100+ summers & ice storm winters
This is gonna sound strange..... I have an 06 cc 4x4 f350 DRW w/34k. I have installed a 4in turbo back exhaust, tuner, airaid intake and 35's w/4:10 rear. I was getting 13-14mpg on the hiway not towing. i decided to change the airaid back to stock (tinkering around) and took a trip. upon fueling up i calculated (3 diff times) my mileage went up.....yes up to 15.5mpg....dunno why....don't really care either, didn't buy the truck for the mileage but i'll take all i can get.
Well at least some folks are getting better milage! I checked today and the truck went in to the dealer to have the speedometer replaced because it kept going out. Since then the bad milage - trying to find out if they reflashed the computer when it when in. Seems that a few foks have had a similiar drop in MPG after a reflash.....
I'm new to this board, just purchased a used 06 250 6.0. First tank I was getting 13.0 MPG combined FRWY and street. I put a bottle of the Disel additive recomended by the Ford Dealor. I'm watching it very close now and am getting around 18 MPG FRWY and 15 MPG Town. Total it looks like I'm seeing approx 2 MPG diff with the additive. These #'s are by the seat of my pants, but it does look like it makes a diffrence.
P.S I found a used 2006 6.0 Lariat Supercrew with Leveling kit, 35" Toyo MT's, Banks Exhaust. Paid 31,600 for the truck with 14000 miles, clean Oasis report.
Well, I started using Diesel Kleen, because of all the good stuff everyone was saying about it. But I've found that my MPG has actually decreased(?) instead of increased, like most said it would. It also seems a lot noisier in the mornings. I live in Phoenix and I use about 16oz per fill-up.
Any comments on this motive for MPG change?
I use Schaeffer's Dieseltreat in my 7.3L and 16 oz treats 125 gallons. No need to double up the dosage like on Dieselkleen since the single dose gives a 5 point cetane boost. But in all fairness dieseltreat should give you some improvement. Did you fill up at a different gas station than normal or did you fill up with #1 diesel? The winterblend (#1) normally has a drop in MPG compared to #2. Or it's also possible you got some crappy fuel - it happens.
As far as being loud in the morning, once the temps get down around 30 degrees diesels start up harder and are louder until getting up to normal operating temp. The 6.0 aren't as loud as the 7.3L's but there is definitely a big difference between cold & warm start ups with all of them. What have the temps been in the morning? You could try plugging in the block heater - it will make a big difference when starting up....
But in Phoenix it it isn't that cold yet.
Hope the info helps.

Thx for the info. The coldest it has gotten here in Phx is in the 40's - which isn't terribly bad, but I guess that would make a difference compared to summer temps. As far as diesel, I've always filled up at the same station - which happens to have the cheapest PRICED diesel most of the time, w/ all the diesel trucks I've had. I wonder if it's been changed to winter blend though, since I started using diesel kleen at the same time it started getting cold here. Do they usually mark it on the pump?

23K all stock, a little DK in most tanks...consistant 15mpg or a little better town...all my freeway is with 8K behind me so I have NO trailer-less freeway milage, but with the trailer the last two years its been 12.15-12.26...and in between.

They are supposed to mark the pumps but you know how that goes sometimes. Give it a couple of tankfulls and see if things change. Or both of us have run into the same problem - has yours been to the dealer lately for anything? I ask because some people have noticed bad MPG after going to the dealer and they reflashed the PCM while it was there.
Yeah, it was in the dealer for the oil pump deal most trucks that don't start seem to be in there for (hpop? doesn't look right though...) Maybe that could be it............
