I see several examples of trucks that are lifted with the axles and other parts that appear to be powder coated. How specialized is this process, where can this be done and at what cost?
I have an alternative to the expensive approach. Dilute some simple green and spray everything down real good. Hose it off and make sure everything is real clean. When dry, get a few cans of ignition spray made by gunk. It is used to spray spark plug wires on older engines. Anyway this stuff makes everything look like new with a bright shiny coat. It is clear and makes the finished product look like new. P.S. I use this procedure under the hood also. Mine is a 2000 and looks better than most 2008 under the hood.

Great tip thanks! ya think that "orange" de greaser would work in place of the simple green?
i am getting everything Line-X but that is only because i am getting a good deal on it (friend works for a local line-x dealer) but if i did not have that i would just simple green everything then hit it with some flat black rustolium or other heavy-duty spray paint
I prefer to use POR-15 for all my frame and axle coating. As far as I'm concerned, this there is the greatest stuff ever made. All you need to do is brush off the rust scales, and brush this stuff on. It'll even dry under water!
If you will be painting anything that gets hot like headers, use POR-20. The only thing is this stuff aint cheap, but a little bit goes a long way!
