I was putting fuel in my truck last night it is a 1999 f250 superduty 7.3
a fellow ford diesel owner as me if i knew what was making that extra rattle in my engine i thought that it was because i had a through flow exaust
guess not he said that it was a noisy torque converter i have been searching this forum and with what i have read it sounds like my problem
with all tht said is there any kind of recall on this or is there a cheap fix
my truck has 183,000 miles on it.

We have an early 99 with the noisy torque converter. As far as I know its only a 99 thing? Surprisingly enough on ours, stock tranny, stock converter still, 225k. I dont know how its still alive, it doesnt shift that well, but it shifts haha. The sound is kinda like shaking a coffee can kinda fast with a couple of steel ***** in it. Its primarily noticable at idle.
If your not interested in extra power, etc. I would put a real transmission gauge on it (if you dont already have one) And just watch it from time to time. If you notice excessive heat, then it might be a good idea to do some work. Otherwise, if you dont mind the noise, I wouldnt worry about it. It obviously isnt a detrimental thing. Our early 99 used to do alot of plowing in its day, weights between 8500-9k and the driver seems to think its done it since almost day 1. People have been telling him to replace it since 100k, and now at 225k, it still drives. He replaced the truck, just hasnt had time to build the new one up, so it sits, and he continues to drive the 99. So it doesnt seem to affect longevity, but quite frankly, I think its anoying! (and I would have replaced it) If your fine with it, just stick a gauge on it.
I change mine out about 20k ago, mainly because of the rattle. Didn't notice any tranny temp or performance differance. I replaced it with a newer style OEM because I got a heck of a deal on a new one. Sure does make a differance in the sound.
