You may want to look in my gallery called Shave door handles. It shows a little of what I did. Lost a lot of construction pictures when other computer went bad.
The PO of my 54 had shaved handles installed. They only worked part of the time. I had to leave the window partially open just in case they decided not to work. Was a real pain in the *** and I am removing them while I correct a bunch of other PO things I don't dig. It looks cool but if you go for it do it right. Set up a hidden external release or you'll have to break a window to get in if it fails or your battery dies.

And the thieves know to look for the "hidden" release any time they see a vehicle with shaved door handles... They know it's an easy mark, so might as well leave it open. Shaved door handles are one of those ideas that are more for esthetics than practicality IMHO. You'll soon have scratched and scraped door edges and posts and SO's complaining about broken nails from opening the doors. Watch out for smashed fingers when opening the doors on a windy day.
had *** fairlane two door , white with flames 390 4speed , that i did that too . had to leave the freaking wing vents open so i could get in the dain thing . total pain in the butt .
I think I came up with a good idea for a hidden external release.
Install a device that looks like it belongs, but actually is not required for your particular truck. I am installing a T5 5 speed but the majority of these trucks are being upgraded to an automatic transmition, so a device like Lokar's firewall mounted dipstick would not look out of place. It would disappear under the cab and be routed to the drivers door. Here is an example of what I plan to use. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...10002_59076_-1
My doors edges are not scratched and scraped, no fingers or nails hurt/broken and so far those that have tried to find the external releases haven't (my secret). We all know if a thief wants it bad enough it's gone. I don't think mine is any easier to steal now then it was with handles. Hope not to find out.
Glad we all don't like the same thing it sure would be boring.
well i think we ought to all drive drab olive green econobores with electric watch motors and stop to hug every tree , animal , and thing in our travels . oh and we all should wear plaid polyester leisure suits with polka dot ties so we fit in with the bleeting masses . dont you ? LOL LOL
Sorry wasn't trying to offend anyone. I for one am all for individuality! I was just pointing out the negatives of shaving door handles in addition to those already mentioned. Please tell me how you avoid paint scratches short of handing out gloves, I have had two cars with body color painted door handles from the factory that were full of scratches within months. Being a jeweler I know that rings are occasionally going to come into contact with the door posts when fingers are wrapped around the door edge to pull it open.
Go to a show and check the vehicles with shaved door handles. A majority of them will have a **** or wire loop in the back of the front wheel well or under the rocker panel. There are only a limited number of routes a cable can take.
Want to be an individual, don't shave the handles that's not individual, everybody does that. Why not adapt flush door handles from a late model vehicle or a push button recessed into the door edge with a finger relief cut into the door edge?
