I searched a lot, but can't seem to find the right solution. I have a 93 F150. The ABS light started flashing (15 times). After checking the site, I found others had brake light problems to. I checked mine and they weren't working. I checked the fuse and it was blown. I put a new one in and it popped. I started checking for shorts and I think I have convinced myself that the short isn't in the brake light switch, nor the hazzard switch. Now, I'm stuck. Any ideas?
Another thing to check if you have it is inline plug in trailer wireing. If you have it try pulling it out and see if thats the problem, that plug went bad on my F-150 and my dads Ranger.
I have measured the ohms at the conn. on the brake light switch and hazard switch. The short doesn't appear to be there. Based on that, don't I need to do the same checks at the ABS conn. If I don't find the short in the ABS module, then I am assuming that I have short in the wiring between the conn's and the fuse box. Am I correct?
Any other ideas? Can someone tell me where the ABS module is located? Is it possible that it has developed an internal short? At the very least, I want to check the wiring on that conn.
OK. I thought I had ruled the trailer/brake lights out by checking for shorts with the brake light switch plugged in and un-plugged. Anyways, I did as suggested. I don't see any obvious corrosion, but I might not be looking at it correctly. I also removed the trailer wiring adapter and plugged it back directly. I put in a new fuse and it blew immediately. Am I suppposed to removed the cover to the brake light bulb sockets to check for corrosion? If so, how do you remove that socket cover?
OK. I did as you suggested. Unfortunately, my fuse blew with all of this disconnected. Just for clarification. Is the turn signal switch conn. a little bigger than the brake light switch. The one I disconnected was directly below the steering column. It had two conn. tabs (one on each side). It was kind of hard to disconnect. If this is the right one, then none of this worked. What should I try next?
BTW.. Sorry for all the questions, but it's the only way that I can learn. If you disconnect the brake light switch doesn't that by default rule out everything downstream of that circuit (i.e. brake lights, trailer lights, etc.). This is what I was trying to ask earlier, but I don't think I was clear.
Thanks again for all the help. Maybe I can get this truck up and running again very soon.
Try putting 12V to the brake light switch. If you have a power probe that will work nice. If that works right with the 12v going to the switch and ur lights work then its in the wire between the fuse and plug or on the other side of the fuse.
I take it that it is Fuse #13 that is blowing on you.
My guess is your truck is about to burn, unhook the pressure switch on the front of the MC. Then get it to a Ford dealer and they will replace the switch and put on a small wiring harness on it for FREE.
Try THIS: Look under the hood, in the front of the master cylinder there is a pressure switch, see if its leaking fluid, or wet, pull the electrical connection, if its melted or messed up, cut the wires, and seperate them, then make sure they are not touching anything and try another fuse and see if this works, had the exact problem on a 94 and this is what we did, We left it disconnected and taped the ends everything worked fine for us. Let me know if this helps or not.
Thx. for all the help. I will Aj, I will take a look when I get back to the truck. I am going to be out of town for the next few days, so it will be the end of the week.
DON'T CUT ANY WIRES! If you suspect the pressure switch on the master cylinder, take the thing to Ford and they'll fix it for FREE- there was a recall issued. Did you totally miss subford's post just above aj197816134's?
